Geneva Woman Gets Prison For Stealing $618K From Vet Clinic

Martha P. Strauss was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing from a St. Charles vet clinic.

KANE COUNTY, IL -- A 53-year-old Geneva woman has been sentenced to prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from her employer over several years, prosecutors said. As part of a plea deal, Martha P. Strauss was sentenced to five years in prison earlier this month. Strauss, of the 200 block of South Harrison Street Geneva, worked for a vet clinic in St. Charles when she took $618,000 from the business, according to media reports and a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah Seberger said the thefts occurred between 2008 and August 2015. The money was stolen in the form of cash and checks written to herself, according to the news release.

In addition to the prison sentence, Strauss must pay $618,380.69 in restitution.

According to Illinois law, Strauss is eligible for day-for-day credit. She received credit for one day served in the Kane County jail.

Judge Barsanti set Strauss’ next court date for 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 to rule on Strauss’ payment method of the restitution.
