Geneva Woman Injured In Crash That Killed Truck Driver
A Jeep Compass driven by a Geneva woman struck a Volvo Tractor-Trailer head on Thursday morning in northern Lake County, authorities said.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – A 65-year-old Kenosha man is dead following a head-on collision in northern Lake County Thursday morning. The crash occurred when a Volvo Tractor-Trailer, which was carrying a 40,000-pound load, was struck head on by a Jeep Compass in the area of Russell Road and Park Lane in Newport Township at about 5:10 a.m., according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. The Volvo overturned and rolled into a ravine on the south side of the roadway.
The truck driver was taken to St. Catherine's Medical Center in Kenosha where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep, a 38-year-old Geneva woman, was also taken to the Kenosha hospital where she was treated and released.

The woman is accused of crossing the center line while heading east on Russell Road and then hitting the Volvo head on, authorities said. Lake Co. Sheriff's Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli said in a Saturday news release that the woman is "cooperating with the investigation."

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
