GENEVA, IL — Five houses in Geneva will be decked out by local decorators for the holidays, and tickets to take self-guided tours of them on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 are for sale.

The five properties, with architecture styles including a farmhouse, a custom-built home, a ranch, a Tuscany-inspired house and a mid-century home, will be decorated inside and outside, waiting for visitors.

The house tour was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns, but organizers are said they're "thrilled" to bring the tour back this year. Since the pandemic hasn't ended yet and with safety in mind, tours will only include the first floor of most houses.

Organizers also noted that in light of COVID-19, the tour could be modified if state regulations change.

Guests should plan for the entire tour to take about 3-4 hours depending on the lines and size of the home, the event description says. Driving will also be required since the locations aren't together.

For $35, people will be able to visit the houses between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday or from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that Saturday. Part of the proceeds will go toward decorating Geneva for the holidays.

The following houses are on the tour:

  • 829 Cheever Ave.
  • 1088 Dunstan Road
  • 528 Campbell St.
  • 1900 Kaneville Road
  • 1110 Union St.

Each ticket also includes traditional tea served at the First Congregational Church, 327 Hamilton St., as well as a treat from The Olive Mill or 360° Flavor & Spice, while supplies last. The tea will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. both days until 6 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets — which are required to enter the homes — can be purchased online or at a handful of shops in downtown Geneva through Nov. 23 or until they sell out. Limited amounts are available in person, and visitors can only pay for them with cash or a check, payable to the Geneva Chamber of Commerce.

If purchased by Nov. 19, tickets can also be mailed to participants for an extra $1 per ticket. Orders received after that date will be held for pick-up.
