Homeless Man Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for Sexually Assaulting Child

Jay A. Davies pleaded guilty to a sex assault charge on Friday.

A 53-year-old homeless man was sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting the child of a family he had befriended, prosecutors said.

Jay A. Davies, 53, entered a guilty plea to criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, on Friday.

Kane County prosecutors presented evidence that on the evening of June 25, 2015, Davies sexually assaulted the victim with force. Davies knew the victim, who was younger than 18 years old at the time, according to a Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office press release. Davies immediately fled on his bicycle.

In addition to the prison term, Davies must register for life as a sexual offender, according to the news release.

According to Illinois law, Davies must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He was given credit for 344 days served in the Kane County jail, where he had been held since his arrest in lieu of $250,000 bail. Bond was revoked upon conviction.

The case was investigated by the Kane County Child Advocacy Center with assistance from the Batavia Police Department.
