Kane County Animal Clinic To Host Rabies, Microchip Drive-Thru Clinic

GENEVA, IL — Kane County Animal Control will host its first Rabies and Microchip Animal Clinic April 23.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kane County Animal Control, located at 4060 Keslinger Road in Geneva, cat and dog owners can pull up and let volunteers do the work. Officials said people don't need to get out of the car but if they do, they are asked to wear a mask.

Two teams — each consisting of a doctor, staff and clerks to process paperwork and finances — will run the clinic, officials said in a news release Monday. Staff will leash the pet and bring them to an examination station, where a medical crew will perform the exam and administer vaccines.

While this happens, the clerk will process the transaction and complete the rabies certification. After a pet is brought back to its owner's car and they depart, staff will clean the station for the next client.

"The animal control staff maintains proper infection control by wearing masks, gloves and scrub tops," officials said. "Their goal is to help treat the animals in need and still provide a much-needed resource during these complicated times."

The price for a one-year rabies vaccine, with an included tag, is $22 for neutered pets or $40 for non-neutered animals. Seniors will receive a discounted rate of $10, officials said. Microchips can be purchased for $15.

Cash, check, VISA and MasterCard will be accepted at the clinic.

While the first clinic of the year is planned for the end of April, it's not the only one. The drive-thru event will take place again May 11 and June 4. Dates for August, September and October have not yet been announced.
