Kane County Coronavirus Cases Climb Past 2,500
The Kane County has experienced its three largest single-day spikes over the past week, public health data shows.
KANE COUNTY, IL — The number of people in Kane County who tested positive for the coronavirus has doubled in less than two weeks, according to public health data, which shows almost 500 people have tested positive since Monday. Health officials have confirmed 2,573 cases of the coronavirus in Kane County, as of Thursday.
Officials reported 172 new cases in Kane County on May 1, 135 on May 4 and 169 on May 6, the three largest single-day increases so far, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The 480 cases reported since Monday include 168 Aurora residents and 135 Elgin residents, the data shows. More than 40 percent of those cases were confirmed in people 40 and under, including 27 children, 11 of whom are under the age of 9.

Kane County Coroner Rob Russell announced Monday that 84 people in the county have died from the coronavirus since the start of the outbreak, while IDPH data shows 78 Kane County residents have died from coronavirus-related conditions. Anyone who dies at a Kane County hospital is included in the coroner’s statistics, though not all are Kane County residents.
