Longtime D304 Administrator Promoted To Assistant Superintendent

GENEVA, IL — A longtime Geneva Community Unit School District 304 administrator was promoted to assistant superintendent of learning and teacher, the Board of Education voted.

George Petmezas will assume the role following current Assistant Superintendent Shonette Sims' retirement at the end of the school year.

Petmezas has worked for District 304 since 2009, when he joined as an assistant principal at Geneva Middle School North. He went on to become the principal of Mill Creek Elementary School before becoming the director of learning and teaching.

Before District 304, he worked as a special education teacher and coordinator for Community High School District 94.

"Dr. Petmezas is an established leader in Geneva who has worked at all levels and in both general and special education," Superintendent Andy Barrett said in a statement. "As a previous building administrator and the current Director of Learning and Teaching, George has modeled collaborative and empathetic leadership focused on improving systems and empowering staff and students. We are excited to have him move into this new role."

Petmezas holds a bachelor's degree in special education from Illinois State University, a master's in educational leadership and administration from Concordia University and a doctorate in educational leadership and administration from Aurora University.
