Mom's Hilarious FB Posts About Polar Vortex Lift Spirits
The suburban mom has been making local residents smile with her Facebook posts.

If you follow the What’s Happening In Geneva Facebook page, you’ve likely seen her posts in recent days. Ashley Lindgren, a suburban mom, posted a series of hilarious posts that have been striking a chord with local residents. In the posts, Lindgren shares her thoughts on being stuck inside with her kids and a dwindling supply of apple juice, hot chocolate and wine during the polar vortex.
She also talks about local mom’s Facebook groups, which she says once again “have not disappointed with nonsense,” and Tom Skilling, who she thinks should get a bonus after this week.
Here are some snippets from the posts:

- All children are off from school and parents have taken off of work. I predict several baby showers will take place late summer. Perhaps I will use this time to learn to knit. If you pray, please do so for us. And may God have mercy on those who did not listen to Tom Skilling.
- It is currently a -34 wind chill and I fear that I did not prepare enough for our dogs to not want to go outside. So far though, so good.
- It's cold. Why do we live here? Why live in a place where the air hurts my face? It sure isn't because we love the income taxes.
- Morale is quickly deteriorating. The crew no longer has access to the XBox due to a dead remote. I fear that a mutiny may occur. If this happens I am prepared to barricade myself in the bathroom.
- They crew is home one more day from school tomorrow. I do not know how much longer we can last. Tom Skilling says the end is in sight. I hope that its true. Pray for us. Send wine.
- Shortly after my last log, my husband walked through the door. Of course, it was with pizza. The crew greeted him with joy. I think he is trying to earn their loyalty. He brought it under the guise of trying to be helpful after our long day, I am not buying it- he brought this, but no wine. He intends to turn the crew against me, I just know it.
- Is anyone else out there? I glance out our windows sometimes but still see no signs of life, just my husband's relaying of information. I suppose I will have to trust his reports, but I am still not sure what his motives are since his pizza but no wine is highly suspect. I am going to have to continue to monitor him closely.
- The local mom groups have now been continuously discussing the "booms" we have been hearing. This is due to water in the ground freezing and some other long drawn out explanation... but every hour there is at least one new "WHAT WAS THAT?!" post. I have now resorted to answering "the Russians" for my own personal amusement.
- Today I will change my bonding tactics from dancing to absurd music to playing board games. I refuse to play Monopoly though. Monopoly destroys happy homes.
The posts by the Villa Park mom caught the attention of at least one Chicago TV station. WGN News stopped out to Lindgren’s home on Thursday to interview her. Here is what she had to say about the Chicago TV station coming to her home:
WGN is here. Kids are playing Minecraft and I am just thankful that they did not ask to look in our closets since I tossed everything into there.
Thank God I also remembered to put on matching socks. And underwear.
After this I am definitely going to need wine.
Please for the love of God be kind tonight fellow moms when you see my nervous interview on the 4 and 6 o clock segments.
I'm also incredibly glad that I showered after my last log.
My kids are in pajamas but at least I cut their nails. I'll take what I can get at this point.
The only drawback I suppose of them being here is that they did not bring me more wine and Tom Skilling was not in attendance. I hope to one day meet this Chicagoland weather icon.
Now... it's time to prepare our household for the incoming snow that should happen tonight.
For the love of God though I hope that the kids have school tomorrow. I'm not sure how much longer the hot chocolate will last. We are completely out of apple juice.
We're almost through this. We can make it.
As to what fueled the blog, Lindgren told WGN she was "just bored."

"I was on Facebook and just messing around and started doing this ‘captain’s log’ about the cold and what we’ve been doing at home," Lindgren said. "I just put my own twist on it, to say the least."
