GENEVA, IL — Plans to enhance Geneva's electric service reliability are set to begin in late August, officials said Monday.

To do so, the city's contractor, Utility Dynamics, will replace underground utility cables in four areas of Geneva, as outlined below.

  • South Street, from Gary to Sheila lanes
  • Hill Road and Whitfield Drive
  • Burgess Road area (including Sherman Avenue, West Street, Millbrook Court and Radnor Court)

If weather permits, work is scheduled to start on South Street Aug. 29 and on Hill Road Sept. 6. Construction on the other two areas will begin in the fall, according to a news release.

Crews will install conduit through utility easements and public right-of-ways for the next several months, officials said. Electrical transformers, pedestals and street lights also will be replaced.

In the winter, officials said the contractor will energize and connect homes to the new equipment. This phase will require scheduled power outages.

Final landscape restoration is expected to begin in the spring, weather permitting.
