Residents Sound Off on Proposed Five-Story Apartment Complex in Downtown Geneva
Several Geneva Patch Facebook followers said they were not on board with the current proposal.
The current proposal for the property at Seventh and State calls for a 219-unit apartment building, a 353-space parking structure, 106 surface parking spaces, a 5,940-square-foot retail building and the extension of Seventh Street from West State Street to Peyton Street, according to information posted on the city of Geneva’s website. A public hearing for the plan is scheduled for March 10 before Geneva’s Plan Commission.
The plan has gotten plenty of heat from residents at recent public meetings and Geneva Patch readers also recently sounded off on the proposal on our Facebook page. Here is what some had to say:
- Jennifer Reilly: “People visit, shop in, dine in and live in downtown Geneva for it’s old world charm. This building would single-handedly ruin that.”
- Nichole Granquist: “I was in property management for years, a quality upscale apartment community is something that is severely lacking in this area. I think it will be a great addition to Geneva.”
- Heather Schulz: “We have a charming town with a historic look, this does not fit that. Plus 5 stories will make it the tallest structure in Geneva. That will make it a focal point. I am not against it but I am against the current structure. A three story design that fits our look could work.”
- Katie Jackson: “This does not belong in downtown Geneva.”
- Rachel Inzer-Russell: “This is a horrendous idea, it would irrevocably damage the feel and way Geneva has always felt.”
- Cecily Nordstrom: “We are NOT NAPERVILLE.”
