Roadside Safety Checks Scheduled for Geneva, Elgin This Weekend

Officers will be out in full force on Friday.

KANE COUNTY, IL - Local police departments and the Illinois State Police will conduct roadside safety checks in Kane County the weekend of June 16. Officers working on the roadside safety check will be watching for drivers in violation of operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, failing to properly wear a safety belt or child restraint, driving with a suspended or revoked license, transporting open alcoholic beverages and driving under the influence. They will also be on the lookout for any other vehicle code and criminal violations, according to a news release.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois and throughout the United States.

Nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving.

Roadside safety checks are designed to keep our community safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road and having officers watch for safety violations, according to a news release. The checkpoint is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
