GENEVA, IL — Route 25 has officially reopened to traffic Wednesday, Geneva officials announced.

The water main installation project has been "substantially completed," paving the way for the state route to reopen, according to a news release. The city has been working on the infrastructure project along the Route 25 corridor, primarily between State and Jefferson streets, since October.

"The City appreciates the community’s patience during the past several months to complete this necessary infrastructure improvement," officials wrote in the release.

Crews poured the final section of concrete the week of Jan. 8 and allowed the surface time to cure before the barricades were removed Wednesday at the State Street intersection. Officials noted the detour signs on Fabyan Parkway, Kirk Road and Route 64 in St. Charles will be removed later this week.

Despite the reopened roadway, not all work in the area is completed. Additional sidewalk work, landscape restoration and "miscellaneous punch list items" will be finished in the coming months, officials said.
