Some Parkings Fines Will Increase in Geneva

Parking fines will increase in prohibited area or for those who park improperly.

GENEVA, IL - For the first time since 2004. Geneva is looking to increase some of its parking fines.

Geneva Aldermen have approved an increase in fines from $10 to $25 for those parking in prohibited areas or who park improperly, which would include those who park without a permit in commuter lots near the Metra station and on streets where parking is meant for residents only, the Daily Herald reports.

Aldermen are still working out the details surrounding a possible increase in fines for those who violate parking-time rules but have not yet determined a set amount, according to the article. Currently, those who park past the relegated parking time face a warning for a first offense; a $2 ticket for the second and third offense; a $15 ticket for the fourth through tenth offenses; a $20 fine for tickets 14 through 20 and anything above that is $25.

Aldermen have backed off on considering an increase in parking fines in downtown Geneva, the Kane County Chronicle reports. During a May 9 Committee of a Whole meeting, aldermen decided to keep the current overtime parking fine structure unchanged. Aldermen did not want an increase in fines to defer shoppers from visiting downtown retailers, according to the article.
