St. Charles Man Breaks Into Geneva Home, Wields Butcher Knives at Cops: Police

A police officer was injured during the incident. Five residents were inside the home when the man broke in early Friday.

A 44-year-old St. Charles man remained in custody Tuesday on a $20,000 bail after police said he broke into a Geneva home early Friday and was found wielding two butcher-type knives when officers showed up, according to online jail records.

John C. Reed has been charged with two felony counts of criminal trespassing and resisting a peace officer and with a misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property, according to a city of Geneva press release.

Police were called to a home in the 2900 block of Adamson Drive in Geneva at 5:28 a.m. on Friday after Reed was allegedly seen breaking a window to gain entry to the home, police said. Dispatch received a call a few minutes earlier that a person, who was later identified as Reed, was walking down the street, requesting assistance and stating, “Help, help, call 911.”

When police arrived to the home, they found Reed inside. He was wielding two butcher-type knives, which belonged to the homeowner, police said. Reed dropped the knives after officers ordered him to do so.

But he then began to resist the officer’s commands and struck the officers, according to police. He was taken into custody and transported to the Geneva Police Department and later to Delnor Hospital for issues unrelated to the arrest.

An officer was injured during the incident, according to the news release.

There were four residents in the home at the time of the altercation. One of the residents ran outside before police could arrive. None of the residents were injured.
