St. Peter 5th Grade Boys 3rd In Conference

Team finishes fifth overall at Aurora Conference Track and Field Championship, places first among the conference's small schools.

The St. Peter track and field team had a good finish to their 2015 season, scoring enough points at the conference championship to finish ahead of St. Mary Plano and St. Mary Dekalb. All three schools are the smallest of the seven schools in the Aurora Conference.

The highlight of the meet, held at Aurora Central Catholic High School were the fifth grade boys who tied for third place with Holy Cross of Batavia. 26 of their 57 points scored were in the field events. Landon O’Donoghue placed first in the 1600 meter run and the 4x100 team had their strongest race of the season finishing in third place.

The other notable highlight of the meet was seventh grader Isabelle Koester who single handedly placed fifth out of seven teams in the seventh grade girls division. She was fourth in the 200 meter dash, second in the 400 meter dash and was the seventh grade girls discus champion.

While the team was competing in Aurora, Alec Wilson was representing St. Peter at the IESA State Track and Field Championship Meet in East Peoria. There he finished 28th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.85 seconds and 22nd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.49 seconds.

Overall the team placed 58 events in the top six scoring a total of 292 points for their fifth place finish. Annunciation of Aurora were once again crowned Aurora Conference Champions with a total of 882 points. St. Rita followed in a distant second with 581 points.

Considering the fact that St. Peter was a very young team (with 30 of their 40 student athletes in fifth and sixth grade) the team had an outstanding season. Seven school records were broken and the team was very competitive against much larger schools in the conference and at the IESA Sectional meet.
