Suburban Race Car Driver Killed In Sycamore Speedway Crash

The crash happened late Friday night at the Sycamore Speedway.

SYCAMORE, IL – A suburban race car driver is dead following a crash Friday night at the Sycamore Speedway. Emergency personnel were called to the race track at 50W112 Old State Road in unincorporated Virgil Township to extricate the driver, Timothy G. Erjavac, 47, of Morton Grove, from his car. He became trapped after his race car collided with another car during a figure eight event at about 11:20 p.m., according to news release from the Sycamore Speedway and Kane County Sheriff's Office.

Erjavac was extricated from his race car and taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. He was later pronounced dead. Sycamore Speedway officials said Maple Park & Country Side Fire Departments worked tirelessly during a torrential rainfall Friday night as they worked to Erjavac out.

"The Sycamore Speedway Race Family sends their condolences and ask that everyone keeps Mr. Erjavac’s family in their thoughts and prayers at this time," according to a Saturday afternoon post on Sycamore Speedway's Facebook page.
