Tri-Cities Death Notices Include TWA Flight 847 Hostage/Veteran, Owner of Pete's Citgo, Fermilab Employee and Business Owners

- Douglas E. Porter, Jr., 90, of St. Charlesserved our country during World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard, owned his own contracting company, Porter Brothers in St Charles, and in 1985, was aboard TWA flight 847 and was taken hostage by the Lebanese terrorists for two weeks. He loved golf, sightseeing, antique cars and, most of all, his family.
- Judith K. Pedersen, 68, of Oswego worked for many years within the Illinois Department of Corrections, enjoyed arts and crafts of all types, especialy quilting and creating keepsakes for her family.
Yurs Funeral Home
- Joanne K. (Kunstman) Mehring, 82, of St. Charles was a librarian from many years on the east coast of the United States, a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Geneva and a former member of the American Library Association.
Moss Funeral Home
- Leo Francis McKenna, 80, of Batavia and formerly of Oswego serve two years in the Army, worked for 28 years with Montgomery Wards in transportation management and was very active within his community and his church.
- Donald Newman Peterson, 86, was a lifelong resident of Batavia and WWII veteran. For many years, he owned and operated Pete’s Citgo on Batavia’s West Main Street, which later became Pete’s Auto Repair on Batavia’s First Street and was a volunteer on the Batavia Fire Department for more than 20 years.
- Elizabeth Colpen, 84, of St. Charles loved sitting in her living room and watching the wild life, especially the deer and squirrels, play in her yard.
- Carolyn D. Funk, 78, of Batavia was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and greatly enjoyed spending time with all of her family.
- Diana K. Gritzner, 61, of Batavia opened a beauty parlor named Diana’s Magic Mirror in Allison, IA, and later at the Harrison Street School in Geneva as the library aid. Diana devoted her life to raising her children and supporting her loving husband.
- Tom Fitzpatrick, 53 was a valued employee at Fermilab for more than 30 years, who enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his dogs. His interests included music, brewing and judging beer, barbecuing, gardening/landscaping, cycling, disc golf, travel and playing wiffle ball in the yard.
- Raymond Paul Wave, 83, of The Holmstad Retirement Community in Batavia, served in the United States Army, was a draftsman for Motorola and in 1957 reinvented himself as a manufacturers’ representative, eventually starting his own firm from which he retired in 2005.
