$24 Million Glen Ellyn School District 41 Referendum Scrapes By

After an extremely close vote on Tuesday, Glen Ellyn District 41 approved a multi-million dollar referendum for school improvements.

GLEN ELLYN, IL —It was only by a close margin, but Glen Ellyn School District 41 approved a $24.2 million referendum for funding that will go toward improving elementary schools in the district and expanding Hadley Junior High School. More than 5,200 voters weighed in at the polls, approving the referendum by just 12 votes, according to unofficial results reported Tuesday evening.

The referendum vote was already expected to be close going into election day. After the polls closed, 2,663 people had voted in favor of the referendum and a close 2.652 people had voted against it.

Officials plan to use the money from the referendum to increase classroom space and eliminate temporary on-site trailers. The development plans also include upgrading bathrooms to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, WBEZ reported.
