6 Cars Burglarized In Glen Ellyn: Cops

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn has become the latest suburb hit by a rash of burglaries in which the suspects seem to target cars in public parks. Six vehicles were burglaries between Aug. 28 and Sept. 1, according to a release from the Glen Ellyn Police Department.

The first two car burglaries took place on Aug. 28, with one car burglarized in the morning and another in the early evening. Police say that sometime between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., a suspect or suspects got into an unlocked car in the parking lot of a business in the 300 block of Roosevelt Road and stole $300 from a wallet inside the vehicle.

Later that day, a car was burglarized in the 300 block of Geneva. The victim told police that they had left their car unattended between 5:45 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. In that time, someone smashed the cars front passenger window and stole a bag with a laptop inside of it.

On Sept. 1, three cars were burglarized while parked at Newton Park between 6 p.m. and 7:11 p.m. Police say the burglar(s) broke the windows on all three vehicles and stole purses from each of them. The stolen items included an iPhone that police say was later found near Roosevelt and Pershing.

Police say another car was burglarized on Sept. 1 while parked at the Spring Recreational Center. According to police, the suspect(s) shattered the window of a car sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 7:17 p.m. and stole a black purse.
