Accreditation Team Invites Public Comment During COD Department Visit

The public is invited to provide comment as part of the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program’s (ILEAP) on-site assessment of the College of DuPage Police Department on Wednesday, May 17.

Community members, campus employees, agency personnel and elected officials are invited to call in with their comments during a public information session from 10 to 11 a.m. May 17 at (630) 942-2959. Comments are limited to five minutes and must address the department’s ability to meet ILEAP standards. A copy of the standards is available on the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police website.

ILEAP accreditation lasts for a four-year period. If successful, the College of DuPage Police Department would be the third community college to achieve this status.

“While this accreditation process is voluntary, the designation demonstrates the department’s adherence to the highest level of standards and professionalism in the law enforcement field,” said College of DuPage Police Chief Joseph Mullin. “This is a testament to the department’s commitment to excellence.”

As part of the visit, the ILEAP lead assessor will be on-site to examine all aspects of the College Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and services. The overall assessment process includes a review of written material, individual interviews and the inspection of various department processes for compliance. The resulting report is then examined by the ILEAP committee chair and council members, who determine final accreditation status.
