GLEN ELLYN, IL — An EF-O tornado touched down in Glen Ellyn during Monday afternoon's severe storm, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). NWS also confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Lansing.
The tornado weather darkened skies throughout Chicagoland Monday around 1 p.m., leaving fallen trees, damaged property and downed limbs and power lines.
According to NWS, powerful straight-line winds were confirmed in Downers Grove and Carol Stream. In nearby Wheaton, crews were still working to clear storm debris.
The severe weather also caused hazardous flooding. In Downers Grove, two workers became trapped in a storm sewer midday Monday.
As of Tuesday, one person had been rescued and was in good condition. The rescue search for the remaining worker was shifted to a recovery search amid risky water conditions.
