Eighth Grade at Glen Crest Experiences Outstanding Career Day

The eighth grade teachers at Glen Crest Middle School in Glen Ellyn created and coordinated an extraordinary Career Day for their students.  Twenty-one volunteers visited with the middle school 8th graders and they represented  different professions and industrial paths.  The diverse nature of these professions fascinated the students and the teachers were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic participation of the presenters.
The morning of Career Day began with a presentation by Glenbard South High School counselor Saraliz Jimenez and then was followed by Adam Davis Schauer, Admissions Recruitment Specialist from the College of DuPage.  The 8th graders were given specific programs that listed the classrooms they were to go to throughout the morning so they could meet with every professional that was available.  Career Day volunteers were:  Kevin Diehl ( Park View Elementary School Principal), Danny Sronkoski (owner of Tap House Grill in Glen Ellyn), Michael Sear (TeamWorks Media Vice President), Rick Pehta (Veterinarian), Sophia Klymkowych (Firefighter and Paramedic), Marybeth King (FBI), Chad Alcorn (Clinical Psychologist), Michael Madigan (GM for Navy Pier and McCormick Place with Aramark), Master Sergeant George Hamilton (USAF), Kyle Jackolin and Larry Cox (Paramedics) , Lt. John Nanini, Lt. Jason Murtaugh, FF. Pat Stack, Shannon Files, Mike Ruck (Glen Ellyn Fire Department), Sergeant Jeremy Giacomino (United States Marine Corps), Bill Peterson, Vicki Sandhop, and Adriana Dominguez   (Glen Ellyn Bank and Trust), Ryan Noel (Online Advertising - Manifest Digital), and Cheryl Kinczyk (Director of Wellness at the Meadows).  Lunch was donated by the Tap House Grill for the 8th grade class and their guests.
The afternoon was planned for in depth classroom discussion about what  the students experienced.  The 2011 Glen Crest Career Day was an outstanding success according to the report from the 8th graders.
