Authorities Working to ID Person Found Dead in House After Fire Near Glen Ellyn

The blaze does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

Authorities are continuing to try and determine the identity of a person found dead following a house fire in unincorporated Glen Ellyn early Monday.

“At this time, we have not positively identified the victim,” said Charlie Dastych, chief deputy coroner at the DuPage County Coroner's Office, in an e-mail response to Patch Wednesday morning.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at the home at 22W517 Tamarack in unincorporated Glen Ellyn, which is lcoated in the Valley View subdivision of Milton Township, at about 4 a.m. Monday. When fire crews arrived, they found the one-story home was fully engulfed in flames.

Once the blaze was extinguished, firefighters entered the home and found one person inside with “no vital signs,” according to a news release from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office. The person was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:45 a.m.

An autopsy was performed on Monday and the coroner’s office determined there was "no indication of suspicious circumstances" surrounding the person’s death.
The home was deemed uninhabitable following the blaze, according to the Daily Herald.

The DuPage County Coroner’s Office and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate the death.
