Boy, 13, Charged With Aggravated Arson for Fire That Destroyed Glen Ellyn Home

The blaze was started at a home in the 400 block of Ramblewood Drive. The home contained four different units.

GLEN ELLYN, IL - A 13-year-old boy has been charged with arson for starting a fire inside a home in Glen Ellyn Thursday, police said Friday.

The juvenile is accused of starting the blaze in a home in the 400 block of Ramblewood Drive Thursday morning and then leaving the two-story building. The residence has four different units inside.

Glen Ellyn Police Department officers were in the area of the blaze at about 8:30 a.m. and discovered heavy smoke coming from the building, according to a Glen Ellyn Police Department press release. Police officers determined the smoke was coming from a fire in an upstairs unit and evacuated the building.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department and other local fire departments responded and extinguished the blaze. The entire building was deemed uninhabitable.

Police said the juvenile knew residents were still inside the building when he started the fire. He was taken into custody near the location of the blaze, according to the news release.

He was transported to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Facility. He faces a charge of aggravated arson.
