Original Post: Tehavis Price, 19, of Aurora, was coming to the aid of his girlfriend when he was stabbed and killed at a Glenbard West graduation party near Glen Ellyn over the weekend, the girlfriend told NBC Chicago.
While authorities are not naming the victims or the suspect, who is in custody and expected to make a court appearance today, Verkita Vargas told NBC Chicago Monday that she was hit by the teen while leaving a graduation party and then stabbed in the side.
Price came to help her and was also attacked, according to NBC Chicago.
DuPage County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 2N300 block of Prairie Avenue in unincorporated Glen Ellyn at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a fight, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Vargas’ sister, who did not want to be named, threw the graduation party for her 18-year-old son and about 60 of his friends, the Daily Herald reports.
The suspect, who the sister said she knew, was intoxicated and confrontational when he arrived at the party and began “picking fights,” according to the article.
“I told him that this was not that kind of party, and if he needed to take some frustration out, he could take it down the road ... but not here,” she told the Daily Herald. “And he looked me in the eye, apologized and said he would never disrespect me or my home and that he would stop.”
Relatives of those attending the party said the suspect was a high school student, according to the newspaper.
