Building Your Resume for College. March 1, 2024 Deadline.

There is a March 1, 2024 deadline coming up for highschoolers that many may not be aware of! There is a potential spot for you on the Common App Student Advisory Committee. Building a resume for college is important especially for selective schools. Here at WritersStudio.us, I've seen students even use the experience as part of their college application essay. That said, those aren't the only reasons for trying out for positions on any committee, club, team or board. The experience itself goes a long, long way in building self confidence, team-spirit, critical thinking skills and even emotional intelligence.

Section 1: What is the Student Advisory Committee?

The committee is intended to give students "a seat at the table in college admissions. Common App want to learn from you and get your ideas and feedback on Common App’s work!"

"You will help answer questions such as:

• 💰 How can Common App assist students with affordability resources like scholarships, student aid, and others?
• 📃 What can Common App do to support students with the college planning process (e.g., the personal essay, creating a college list, accessibility)?
• 📲 How can Better Make Room reach students who have never heard of us?

This group will meet regularly with leadership from Common App to collaborate and help shape the future of college admissions.

Section 2: What are the responsibilities and requirements?

We will assemble a group of 20 students to participate in the committee for a term of 12 months. The first Student Advisory Committee meeting will begin in July 2024 and end in July 2025.
During this 12-month term, there will be a monthly meeting with Common app staff. We will meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 5 pm to 7 pm EST. If you wish to apply, you must be available during this time. All meetings and participation for this committee will be remote/virtual.

Additionally, there may be some minor activities outside of the main meeting. We estimate that the meeting and these activities will take up to 3.5 hours per month.
💡 Students will receive a monthly stipend of $70 as reimbursement for their participation!
