English Country Dance & International Folk Dance

The English Country Dancing and International Folk Dancing communities come together twice each month for an enjoyable day of music and dancing. What makes these afternoons special is the combination: you can spend the whole afternoon with us, or drop in for just the part that calls to you.

Schedule:

• International Folk Dance: 1:00 – 3:15 p.m.
• English Country Dance: 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.

The International Folk Dance session, led by Mady Newfield, takes you on a musical tour of the world — circle dances, line dances, and partner dances from Europe, the Middle East, and beyond, each one taught and walked through before you’re asked to do it. Then the afternoon continues with English Country Dance, called by Mady Newfield and Tammy Bretscher, where you’ll weave through elegant formations to live or recorded music, with every figure explained before the music starts.

Admission:
To help cover the cost of the hall rental, the suggested donation is $5 per person. If we have live music, we may request $10 per person.

Getting There:

Building Entrance:
The entrance to the gymnasium is at the front of the church. Walk up the ramp and through the single door. An elevator is to the immediate left. Take the elevator the second floor and walk through the double doors to enter the gymnasium.

Parking Information:
Parking in the church parking lot is usually full. There is ample street parking available, and 1 block west of the church on Pennsylvania Ave there is a public parking lot named "Schock Square".

Metra:
The Glen Ellyn Metra stop is a short 5-minute walk from the venue. Currently, a Sunday train (Union Pacific West line) departs Ogilvie at 12:40 p.m. and arrives at 1:25 p.m. Return trains depart at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
