Caller Tells Elmhurst Woman Latin Kings Will Kill Her Brother if She Doesn't Wire $2,500

An Elmhurst woman received a startling phone call from a man who claimed Latin Kings were going to execute her brother if she didn't send $2,500.

The call came shortly before noon Sunday. The woman related how a man explained "her brother was in a car accident and hit a Latin King," police said.

"They told her to Western Union $2,500 or they would kill her brother," police said. But the woman was "able to get a hold of her brother, who was shopping in Oak Brook."

The call came from an AT&T phone number, police said.

"It is suspected this phone number is often used in scams," police said.
