Campton Hills Speedskater Going to Beijing

Campton Hills Speedskater Austin Kleba (22) is headed to the Beijing Winter Olympics after securing a spot during the Speedskating Trials held at the Pettit Center in Milwaukee WI this past weekend. Kleba earned his spot by placing 2nd in the 500 Meter event on Friday.

Kleba began his ice career at 3 1/2 as a hockey player, switching to speedskating when he was 16. A gifted athlete, Kleba earned a spot on the Youth Olympic team within a two years of switching sports. He brought home a silver medal in the mixed team sprint from that event. Kleba was also a 3 time member of the World Junior Team winning a gold at the Junior Wold Cup 3 in 2019 in the 1000 meters. He is the former US Junior National Record holder in the 500 meters. His record was broken this season by Olympic teammate Jordan Stoltz.

Kleba began his Olympic journey with the Glen Ellyn Speedskating Club where he skated until joining the national team after graduating from St. Charles North High School.
