Video artist George Berlin, “Frida Kahlo: Timeless” Executive Director Diana Martinez and “Frida Kahlo: Timeless” Curator Justin Witte lead a special Art on theMART & Dinner Excursion from the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) to view the Frida Kahlo art animation/installation at Art on theMART in Chicago Tuesday, Aug. 17. The event benefits the Frida Kahlo Fund of the College of DuPage Foundation.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the MAC, located at 425 Fawell Blvd. on the campus of College of DuPage (COD). Here all will board a bus that will stop for dinner at Lisle’s Yerbabuena Mexican Cuisine. The menu for dinner includes guacamole and quesadilla appetizers; the Trio Tribilin Combo main course, an all-in-one skirt steak, salmon, shrimp over mashed potato, and melted cheese with orange mango salsa; and beverage choice of a margarita, wine or beer.

After dinner, all will re-board the bus for the trip downtown to the Chicago Riverwalk to view the 9 p.m. projection show at Art on theMART. En route, projection designer George Berlin will provide behind-the-scenes insight on what went into creating the Frida Kahlo projection. Berlin’s creation features several of Frida Kahlo’s most recognizable works including “Self Portrait with Small Monkey” (1945) and “Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress” (1926). The projection is set to an orchestral score from Mexican composer Arturo Márquez, recorded by New Philharmonic, the MAC’s professional orchestra in residence under the baton of Maestro Kirk Muspratt. Art on theMart showcases a total of five art installations, including Frida Kahlo.
