COD to Commemorate 100th Anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote

College of DuPage to Commemorate 100th Anniversary of Women's Right to Vote Sept. 17

In celebration of Constitution Day, College of DuPage will virtually present “100 Strong - Celebrating 100 Years of the 19th Amendment: Women’s Right to Vote" from noon to 1:15 p.m. and 7 to 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.

Part of the College's "Dialogue Over Distance" series, the presentations will commemorate the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution.

Hosted by the COD Political Science faculty, the afternoon presentation features Political Science Professors David Goldberg and Melissa Mourtisen, and History Professor Sam Mitrani for an interactive discussion on the background, challenges and successes of the 19th Amendment. The evening presentation features Dr. Christine Rivers, DePaul University associate professor of political science and pre-law advisor. Rivers will discuss the current state of the 19th Amendment including the legislation that she co-authored to assist marginalized men and women in voting. The "Dialogue Over Distance" series grew out of the College's Speakers Bureau in response to COVID-19. Since its start in April, the series has had more than 5,000 individuals view the series on a broad range of topics. This includes backyard astronomy, economic resiliency amid COVID-19, the 2020 election and social inequalities during the pandemic. Speakers have included experts from COD's faculty and staff, as well as individuals such as Angel Price, attractions engineering services manager for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
