“Our restructured class formats are designed to provide a safe environment for our students and faculty, while still providing a top-notch education,” said COD President Dr. Brian Caputo. “As a community college, one of our strengths is flexibility. This enables us to marshal our efforts to create effective solutions that take into consideration the needs of students and help them achieve their educational goals during extremely trying circumstances.”
Students in hybrid courses visit the campus for labs, studios or clinical work, with additional required learning online. Hybrid course offerings include only those classes requiring hands-on components, including Automotive Service Technology, Chemistry, Cosmetology, Culinary, Fire Science, Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, and Manufacturing Technology. Social distancing and masks are required to ensure students the safest environment possible.

Online courses are internet-based, conducted off-campus and adhere to instructor timelines and designated learning outcomes. Students interact with each other primarily through discussion boards and written messages. All assignments are submitted electronically.
Designed to allow students face-to-face contact in a virtual format while adhering to social distancing measures, virtual class meetings take place completely online in real time at specified days and times using video chat software. Students submit all assignments electronically.
“Virtual class meetings will provide students an environment within which they can stay connected to their peers and the faculty,” said COD Provost Mark Curtis-Chávez. “This format also helps to encourage collaboration among the students, which can be a critical part of their learning and preparation for further education or entering the workforce.”
