COD Meets Village Deadline

The latest installment in the -Glen Ellyn saga unfolded Wednesday, with COD turning in its certificates of compliance by the village’s 1 p.m. deadline.

On Monday, the village issued an ultimatum to the college: Submit the certificates or prepare to meet in court over a temporary restraining order that would ban occupancy of the buildings.

The certificates of compliance were designed as an alternative method for village inspections and building permits of COD's four under-construction buildings.

Even though the college met the deadline, there is a hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. today, following the village's prior filings for an injunction for a possible temporary restraining.

Joseph Moore, COD’s associate vice president of external relations, said he hopes the village will accept the certificates and sign off on the four buildings COD plans to open in August.

“We are very hopeful that the village will not, in any way, prevent this district’s students from making use of these pristine, teaching and learning facilities,” Moore said. “Both sides have worked very hard to find a solution that the college and the village can live with.”

President of the Village of Glen Ellyn Mark Pfefferman confirmed that the village received all four certificates. He said the village will conduct its first inspection of the Berg Instructional Center this Friday.

Pfefferman also said when the buildings are "substantially complete," like BIC, COD will need to submit a final round of compliance certificates, and then the village will conduct inspections. 

If the village accepts the certificates, then the village board could issue COD certificates of occupancy for the four buildings.

While it is a sign of cooperation between two entities, Moore said COD is still pursuing de-annexation from Glen Ellyn.
