The College of DuPage Speech Communication department recently unveiled its new, state-of-the-art classroom in a ribbon cutting ceremony. The space is well-equipped with the technology students need to enhance their learning and prepare them for continued success in the modern working world.

“I am continually impressed with the College’s capacity to forge ahead and adapt to the needs of students,” said COD President Dr. Brian Caputo. “This ability to pivot stems from the capability of our staff and faculty to identify needs and innovate new ways to support student success.”

The flexible learning space includes a variety of technological enhancements, including interactive television monitors for student recordings and countdown timers, in addition to moveable furniture for small group collaboration.

“We’ve created a wireless classroom where students are no longer confined by cords and are able to share information quickly and easily both with their groups and with the rest of the class,” said COD Speech Communication Chair Lauren Morgan.

COD Speech Communication Professor Steve Thompson said that the new upgrades allow students to prepare for the workforce.

“In this new space, students are learning communication skills that are directly applicable out in the real world,” he said. “It enables students to not just practice public speaking but practice with the technology that people are using in the workforce. Students are receiving continuous feedback from trained speech professionals on how to be better speakers and better communicators.”
