College of DuPage Theater Presents ‘Twelfth Night’

College of DuPage Theater will present William Shakespeare’s comedy “Twelfth Night” Nov. 2 to Nov. 19 at the McAninch Arts Center on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 3 p.m. Sundays in the MAC’s Studio Theater. Doug Long directs.

Shipwrecked in a strange land, Viola disguises herself as a man and is recruited by Duke Orsino to woo the Lady Olivia on his behalf. Before she knows it, Viola finds herself trapped in a love triangle. Full of charming characters and one of his most captivating heroines, “Twelfth Night” is Shakespeare’s hilarious and heartbreaking tale of unrequited love.

Doug Long has directed several plays at COD over the years, including “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” “The Frogs,” “Fools” and “Radio Plays,” as well as more than 100 other plays and readings throughout the Chicagoland area. He also acts in Buffalo Theatre Ensemble productions, most recently as an understudy for BTE’s “Season’s Greetings.” He is a faculty member at DePaul University and holds an MFA in directing, and an MA in theatre history from Indiana University.

“This is my favorite Shakespeare play,” Long said. “It’s one of his funniest comedies, and laughter is a universal language. To have a chance to direct this wonderful play at College of DuPage has been a thrill, especially working with the wonderful production team and remarkable students.”

A pre-show talk with the director and designers will be held at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2. A post-show discussion with the director and actors will be held Friday, Nov. 10.
