Conroy Visits Willowbrook Students to Discuss the Importance of Civic Engagement

VILLA PARK, Ill. – State Rep. Deb Conroy, D-Villa Park, visited Willowbrook High School students to discuss the importance of civic engagement and her efforts to engage young adults in the legislative process.

“It is so exciting to see young people interested in government and the work taken on by their elected officials,” said Conroy. “Now more than ever, we need to encourage young people to learn about the issues that face their communities and how they can be a part of the solutions. I worked hard to bring back the civic education requirements in high schools so that we could foster this environment of civic engagement and ensure that our children grow up to be responsible and active participants in the democratic process.”

Conroy spoke to Willowbrook students about the many issues facing the state and local communities. Students asked questions about difficult choices the representative has had to make and what issues she believes are most important in their community. Conroy also shared with students her intention to reintroduce legislation that will allow 16 and 17 year olds to pre-register to vote and become automatically registered to vote at 18 years old.
