Police said the alleged incident took place from February 2012 through May 2014 and further allege that Ramey and Allen used information from friends to repeatedly apply for financial aid. According to police, their friends would then withdraw from courses at College of DuPage to collect the tuition reimbursement. Police allege that the friends would then split the refunded tuition with Allen and Ramey. In 2013, a woman reported receiving a bill from College of DuPage despite never attending the institution. College of DuPage Police Department then teamed up with the State’s Attorney’s Financial Crimes Unit for an investigation that led them to Ramey and Allen.
In a statement, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said of the alleged incident, “Not only did the alleged actions of Mr. Ramey and Ms. Allen cost the College of DuPage hundreds of thousands of dollars, their actions may have also hindered other students with a legitimate need in their search of financial aid,” adding, “This was a very complicated case and I would like to thank authorities at the College of DuPage as well as the College of DuPage Police Department for their outstanding work in unraveling the defendant’s alleged scheme. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Lynn Cavallo for her efforts in preparing a strong case against these two defendants.”
