Developer Eyes Vacant Kmart for New Mariano's

The developer is looking at building the Mariano's at the southeast corner of Roosevelt and Finley roads in Lombard.

LOMBARD, IL - A vacant Kmart location in Lombard could become the site of a new Mariano’s if the village and local school districts approve $3 million in incentives for a developer looking to build the grocery store, the Daily Herald reports.

Bradford Development is planning to spend $20 million to tear down the Kmart and build a 74,000-square-foot Mariano’s in its place at the at the southeast corner of Roosevelt and Finley roads, according to the Daily Herald.

If approved, the village of Lombard would cover 76 percent of the incentives while Lombard Elementary School District 44 would give 14 percent, Glenbard District 87 would give 8.2 percent and the Lombard Park District would give 1.5 percent. The $3 million would help the developer make the site, which has issues with asbestos, grading issues, asbestos and a need for traffic signal upgrades, feasible for a new store, according to the article.

Mariano’s already has stores in Wheaton and Elmhurst.
