Dr. Brian Caputo Honored with Three Fires Council Award of Merit
COD President Installed as Council President, Leading Local Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America

College of DuPage President Dr. Brian Caputo has received the District Award of Merit from the Three Fires Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The award recognizes outstanding service to the Scouting program.
Three Fires Council, based in St. Charles, Illinois, supports the mission of the Boy Scouts of America, providing local youth programs and outdoor activities in DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall and portions of Cook and Will counties. Through the 3,200 adult leaders, the council provides the Scouting program to 7,700 youth members.
Dr. Caputo, who was named the council’s president-elect last year, was installed last month as president. He also continues to serve as Representative to the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

“The Boy Scout organization had a tremendous impact on my life, and I continued that connection when my sons participated,” he said. “It is an honor to receive this award and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the Three Fires Council and further the council’s mission.”
College of DuPage Board Chair Christine Fenne applauded Dr. Caputo’s commitment to engaging with the community through Scouting.

“Scouting, much like higher education, has the ability to transform lives,” she said. “Dr. Caputo is passionate about youth development, and the College of DuPage Board of Trustees fully supports his work within the community in this extraordinary way.”
Dr. Caputo has held a variety of volunteer leadership positions with the Boy Scouts over the course of four decades, including Den Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster and Council Vice President, Three Fires Council; Unit Commissioner, Rainbow Council, Illinois; District Advancement Chairman, Northwest Suburban Council, Illinois; District Commissioner, Lake Huron Area Council, Michigan; and Cubmaster, Monterey Bay Area Council, California. In addition, he and his two sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Three Fires Council Scout Executive/CEO Clint Scharff said Dr. Caputo’s dedication to Scouting is an incredible asset to council leadership.
“With his experience not only through his own Scouting achievements but also the involvement of his sons, Brian brings a great deal of insight to his new role as president,” he said. “The Three Fires Council is fortunate for his leadership and excited to further develop its programming.”
