Driver Turns Onto Metra Tracks, Exits Before Train Hits Car
Police say the 75-year-old woman's car was stuck after she turned onto the Metra tracks.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A Metra train collided with a car in Glen Ellyn Tuesday after the driver turned onto the train tracks and the car became stuck. Glen Ellyn police say the 75-year-old Willow Springs woman was able to get out of her car safely before the commuter train hit. The woman and the train passengers were unharmed, according to police.
Police say the woman was heading southbound on Main Street over the Metra tracks when she turned west and was unable to get the car off the tracks. An eastbound train, which had been slowing as it made its way into the Glen Ellyn station, hit the car.
Train traffic in both directions was stopped as police investigated the scene and crews cleaned up debris from the accident. Traffic resumed just before 9 p.m., according to police.
