DuPage Sheriff Targeted In Nationwide Bomb Threats

The bomb threat was part of what appears to be a phishing scam.

WHEATON, IL --- The DuPage County Sheriff's Office was one of several locations throughout the county and nationwide to receive a bomb threat via email Thursday afternoon. In a news release, Sheriff James Mendrick said there appeared to be "no credible threat" at press time.

Mendrick said the FBI is assisting in the ongoing nationwide investigations. The emails reportedly demanded that electronic funds be sent or an explosive would be detonated, the sheriff's news release.

Similar threats were received in Aurora, where City Hall was briefly evacuated as a precaution.
