Embrace Autumn With Hikes, Music, More During Glen Ellyn's 'Oaktober'

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn will embrace all things autumnal during the 2022 Oaktober event, which offers hikes, live music, leaf peeping and more Oct. 1 through Oct. 8.

From Oct. 1 through Oct. 7, residents can take part in the Great Tree Hunt to find Glen Ellyn's largest and oldest tree. Participants can use a QR code to enter the contest, the winner of which will be announced at Oaktoberfest on Oct. 8.

On Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., members of Glen Ellyn's Environmental Commission will be on hand to answer questions about the village's efforts to foster environmental sustainability.

Get up bright and early on Oct. 6 to view local birds during Migration Morning, which is set for 8:30 a.m. at Ackerman Park. Attendees are encourage to bring binoculars to the birding tour, which will be led by a local naturalist.

The beauty of nature will inspire Glen Ellyn Public Library's outdoor story time event on Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Danby Park.

On Oct. 7, Glen Ellyn Park District naturalists will lead a tour at Churchill Park to admire the changing colors of the fall leaves. This nature walk starts a 9 a.m.

The Oaktober festivities wrap up on Oct. 8 with the village's inaugural Oaktoberfest at Maryknoll Park. The party will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature live music from the School of Rock, interactive nature hikes and games. Vendors will be on hand selling snacks and drinks, including Two Hound Red, which has brewed up a celebratory Oaktoberfest beer.
