Lake Ellyn cleanup planned in celebration of Earth Day

The Glen Ellyn Park District is hosting Earth Day Awareness Celebration at Lake Ellyn Park on Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m.

The event will include clean-up around the lake and throughout the park as well as several exhibits and experts with tips on how individuals can help improve the environment by making changes at home. Topics include:

  • Electricity and better ways to light your surroundings
  • Improving energy efficiency & lower utility costs
  • Tree preservation
  • Backyard gardening and edible landscapes

Earth Day Awareness Celebration is a good opportunity for families, friends, scout troops and service groups to make a positive impact on their community. People are encouraged to wear rubber boots and hip waders to aid in pulling submerged items out of Lake Ellyn.

Prizes will be awarded to the individual who finds the most unique item and to the person who collects the most garbage. Debris will be sorted into trash and recyclables.

The event is free and open to the public. Groups larger than ten people are asked to call Renae at 630-222-3478 so the park district can plan for them.
