The Lombard Garden Club’s 43rd Annual Lilac Sale is Thursday, May 5, beginning ar 3:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Friday, May 6, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Saturday, May 7, 8:00 A.M. until all the lilac bushes are sold. The 2011 Lilac Sale includes 430 lilacs and 18 cultivars, including one recenty-cultivated lilac tree and several lilac bushes that are a color so unique the International Lilac Society has not been able to designate the bushes in the seven official color classifications. Customers will have four blush cultivars from which to choose and by popular demand, will have a selection of lilacs whose mature height is shorter than most cultivars. The location of the Lilac Sale is Lilacia Park in the Village of Lombard (one block west of Main Street, one block south of St. Charles Road and the railroad tracks). Proceeds from the sale help support the club’s volunteer gardening work in areas of Lombard such as the Maple Street Chapel, Lilacia’s Butterfly Garden, Terrace View Park and Main Street Cemetery. A scholarship for college is included in projects supported by the Lilac Sale money earned.
