Sandra Pihos, a former state representative and Republican from Glen Ellyn, was arrested after allegedly taking merchandise from the mall.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A former state representative from Glen Ellyn was arrested on retail theft charges after she allegedly removed merchandise from a store at Yorktown Center. Sandra Pihos, 71, of the 500 block of Williamsburg, was taken into custody Sept. 26 after employees at Von Maur saw her taking clothes and other merchandise without paying, police said.

Pihos, who worked as a Republican lawmaker for more than a decade, is accused of stealing "several hundreds of dollars in merchandise" from the store in total, according to Chicago Tribune. She was released the same day she was arrested after posting $1,500 bond. Pihos later returned to the store in an attempt to refund the items, which were valued at $571 in total, Daily Herald reports.

As a lawkmaker, Pihos served in the Illinois General Assembly from 2003 to 2015 and has won multiple awards for her service. Sandra Pihos is set to next appear in court on November 3 at 9 a.m.
