Fire Company Open House Scheduled for October

During Fire Prevention Week, the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company will hold an open house on Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Monday, October 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the downtown fire station, located at 524 Pennsylvania Avenue.

This annual event will feature special exhibits, Sparky the Fire Dog, educational activities and a change to view fire trucks and equipment up close.The Fire Company is seeking individuals who have a sense of commitment to our community and are up to the challenge of providing the residents of the Glen Ellyn Fire Protection District with a high level of service, according to a village of Glen Ellyn e-mail newsletter.

For information about becoming a volunteer firefighter, please visit the Fire Company's website. "Don't Wait: Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 years" has been selected as the official theme for this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign, October 9 - 15, 2016, according to the village.

A recent National Fire Protection Association survey revealed that only a small percentage of people know how old their smoke alarms are or how often they need to be replaced.
