Former Village Holiday Tree Auctioned Off In Glen Ellyn
The former Glen Ellyn holiday tree, which stands at 20' tall, was purchased during the public works auction.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn's recent public work's auction was filled with the usual items you might expect to see at a public work auction: a stump grinder, a dump truck, a snow plow. But one item stood out above the rest. The village's 20-foot tall retired holiday tree hit the auction block and was snatched up for less than $400.
The artificial Giant Everest tree once towered over the corner of Main Street and Crescent Boulevard every year during the holiday season. It was the place where "the community surrounded and waited for Santa to light with his magic," the Village of Glen Ellyn said in a Facebook post.
Once the retired Christmas tree was listed on the auction site —including its various ornaments and more than 1,200 LED bulbs— the bids started rolling in at $10. By the next day when the auction ended, the bids were in the hundreds, with the winning bid listed at $393.

If you're wondering how anyone is going to move a 20' tall tree, don't worry; the tree splits into two separate parts.
