Fourth Sentencing Hearing Set for Former Wheaton Booster Club President

A former Wheaton North High School Club president accused of stealing more than $10,000 from the club is expected in court Friday for a sentencing hearing.

This is the fourth time Dorothy “Dee” Horky, 58, of Winfield, has been scheduled to appear in court for a sentencing hearing, the Daily Herald reports.

A warrant was issued for her arrest after she missed her third sentencing on Aug. 28. She has since been admitted to the Central DuPage Hospital psychiatric ward where she is expected to be released Wednesday, according to the Daily Herald.

Horkey is accused of stealing more than $10,000 from the Wheaton North Booster Club (WNBC), according to a news release from the State’s Attorney’s Office. Horky turned herself in to authorities on March 7.

Horky, who served as president from 2009 to 2011, allegedly told WNBC officials that she had destroyed a WNBC American Express card in her name after her term expired. An investigation revealed that from July to November 2012, Horky allegedly took $10,985.53 in cash advances against the American Express card. WNBC curent president Suzanne Royer said the theft occurred between late August and early November.

She is also accused of withdrawing $9,838.32 from a WNBC bank account to pay for the cash advances she had taken on the credit card, according to the release.

WNBC officials noticed inconsistencies in their books in November 2012 and alerted the Wheaton Police Department.

“For five months Ms. Horky allegedly lied to and deceived the Wheaton North Booster Club, swindling them out of nearly $11,000,” Berlin said in a statement. “She allegedly treated the Club as her own personal fund-raiser, depriving students’ extra-curricular activities at Wheaton North High School of much-needed funding. I would like to thank officials at Wheaton North High School for uncovering this alleged fraud. I would also like to thank the Wheaton Police Department, particularly Detective Steve Hamill, for their fine work on this case as well as Assistant State’s Attorney Diane Michalak for her efforts.”

According to the March 13 District 200 personnel report, Horky’s resignation from her position as a Wheaton North High School receptionist was effective Feb. 7.
