Giesche Site Redevelopment Given Green Light By Plan Commission

The commission unanimously moved to recommend the project, which will be reviewed by the village board on Jan. 22.

GLEN ELLYN, IL --- The Glen Ellyn Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of a proposal Monday to build a multi-unit development on the former site of Giesche Shoes in the 400 block of Main Street. The project, called Apex 400, would include more than 100 "luxury apartments," a rooftop pool, and more commercial space according to a post on the village website.

The Apex 400 project would also occupy part of a village-owned parking lot, but will include parking spaces for residents on the first floor. Officials say 137 public parking spaces would be set aside, which reportedly would increase public parking downtown by nearly 60 spots once the lot is converted.

The next step is for the village board to hold a workshop to review the planning commissions suggestions at a meeting slated for Jan. 22. Board members will also discuss other factors, including possible financial assistance and planning for the Apex 400 project.
