Glen Ellyn Business Looking to Give Away Furnace to Family or Organization in Need

MKDS Mechanical in Glen Ellyn has teamed up with Amana to give away a furnace this holiday season.

Micah Schoenherr, co-owner of MKDS Mechanical in Glen Ellyn, has come face to face with families who have been unable to pay to have their furnace repaired.

“It hurts. You know people need it,” Schoenherr said. With that in mind, MKDS has teamed up with Amana Heating & Air Conditioning to give away a furnace this holiday season to a family or organization in need.

This is actually the third year MKDS has given away a furnace. The first two years, a furnace was auctioned off at fundraisers for local families in need. This is the first year the local business is taking suggestions from the community as to who should get the energy efficient furnace.

“Obviously, the more people that we could help, the better,” said Schoenherr, who co-owns MKDS Mechanical with his wife, Emilie Moran Schoenherr. “If there was an organization out there that needed it, like a nursing home or anything that could help as many people as possible, we’d like to know about that. But, of course, any family that would need a furnace (would be a good candidate as well).”

Micah first posted about the furnace giveaway on the MKDS Facebook page last month and so far, has not gotten a lot of suggestions. Amana will be donating the energy-efficient furnace and MKDS will donate their time to install the furnace.

The hope is to make life a little easier, and warmer this winter, for some local folks in need.

“You see people who needs things (throughout the year) and you can’t help everyone. It does feel good to do this at least once a year,” Schoenherr said.
